一、推薦信的內(nèi)容
1.被推薦人的基本情況介紹。側(cè)重于個(gè)人的畢業(yè)時(shí)間、學(xué)校、所獲學(xué)位以及個(gè)人的專業(yè)經(jīng)歷。
2.推薦人對被推薦人的基本評價(jià)。側(cè)重于被推薦人的專業(yè)基礎(chǔ)、個(gè)性、特點(diǎn)、工作態(tài)度和在學(xué)術(shù)上的前途估計(jì)。若是推薦研究生,推薦人還需進(jìn)一步說明其深造學(xué)習(xí)的基礎(chǔ)和當(dāng)前所具備的研究能力。顯然,恰如其分地評價(jià)被推薦人的基礎(chǔ)、能力和前途,比言過其實(shí)的贊譽(yù)更令人情服,更具有實(shí)際意義。

二、如何確定與獲得推薦信
Step 1. 逐級篩選,目標(biāo)明確
從已經(jīng)得到 A或A+ 的大三或大四專業(yè)課開始篩選;再參考上過該教授的課程節(jié)數(shù);接下來看教授的教銜、出版物和知名度;最后思考與該教授的`互動與熟悉程度。對于成績并不理想的申請人,可以退而求其次,將獲得 A-或B+ 的任課教授也納入考慮范圍。
隨著條件的增加,候選人勢必越來越少?赡軓淖畛醯氖畮兹俗兂勺詈蟮牧攘葦(shù)人甚至無人可選。因此,一定要未雨綢繆提前準(zhǔn)備,從大二或大三就開始找尋目標(biāo)。找推薦人本就是一個(gè)降低心理預(yù)期、根據(jù)條件逐步篩選的過程。但部分申請人盲目的自信或考慮不周,導(dǎo)致自己在最開始就對候選人的數(shù)量及質(zhì)量錯誤預(yù)估、盲目自信,從而為之后的碰壁埋下伏筆。
Step 2. 選課入手,知己知彼
為了和教授們建立聯(lián)系,第一步當(dāng)然是了解教授的性情、教學(xué)習(xí)慣、學(xué)術(shù)成就等。例如有的教授對國際學(xué)生十分友好、熱愛自己的專業(yè)、樂于和學(xué)生分享,和這樣的教授溝通會相對容易。有的教授對時(shí)間敏感,那么在出勤率、按時(shí)上交作業(yè)等方面一定避免出錯。
在選擇同一節(jié)課的不同教授時(shí),除多和已經(jīng)上過這節(jié)課的學(xué)長溝通外,還可以通過北美著名教授評價(jià)網(wǎng)站 ,輸入教授姓名和學(xué)校,查看過往學(xué)生對該教授的匿名評價(jià)。在用作參考的同時(shí),由于這些評論的主觀性很強(qiáng),不能 100% 相信這些匿名評論內(nèi)容。還可以在開學(xué)的第一周,去進(jìn)行試聽、實(shí)地感受教授的授課風(fēng)格,并及時(shí)進(jìn)行調(diào)整。
Step 3. 課堂表現(xiàn),OH 加分
課上絕對是與教授互動頻次最高也最普遍的場景。首先要保證較高的出勤率,北美本科階段專業(yè)課每個(gè)班從 20-200 人,每節(jié)課和教授至少有一次互動,可以是回答教授拋出的問題,或者是禮貌的進(jìn)行主動提問,這樣起碼可以保證教授對你多少有個(gè)基本印象。在人數(shù)較多的課上,盡量坐在固定的位置,或者最起碼是同一個(gè)方位。在教授對你的印象不夠深刻又被要求撰寫推薦時(shí),最先做的就是在系統(tǒng)里查詢你的出勤、作業(yè)以及成績。
其次就要抓住 Office Hour 機(jī)會,每位教授都有固定時(shí)間和地點(diǎn)的 Office Hour,用于探討學(xué)業(yè)、專業(yè)、職業(yè)發(fā)展等問題,比較受歡迎的教授辦公室門口總是門庭若市。利用這段時(shí)間提出會給教授留下深刻印象的問題,或進(jìn)入較為深入的探討,之后約教授喝咖啡或午餐相對會容易很多。
三、留學(xué)加拿大其他申請材料
碩士加拿大留學(xué)文書:個(gè)人陳述
PS就是個(gè)人陳述或說明,要說出你到底喜不喜歡這個(gè)專業(yè)、喜歡到什么程度、對未來有什么設(shè)想,去讀研究生、博士一定要談對這一領(lǐng)域的看法,說出自己對它的熱愛。要注意的有:
1、PS的長度要適中,600—800英文單詞。
2、緊扣專業(yè),主線明確,避免盲目個(gè)性化。讓招生委員會知道你選擇該專業(yè)的明確和強(qiáng)烈的動機(jī),同時(shí)具備充分的條件完成該專業(yè)的學(xué)習(xí)。

在向你老師要求推薦信并得到其確認(rèn)之后的幾天時(shí)間里,你需要發(fā)電子郵件通知他們接下來所要做的。首先,用以上的要求清單,寫一封單獨(dú)的電子郵件給每個(gè)你的推薦人,并且告知他們寫信時(shí)需要參照的詳細(xì)說明。你要指出是哪所大學(xué)需要該推薦信,并告知填寫各個(gè)大學(xué)推薦表格時(shí)所要遵循的步驟。

注意事項(xiàng):

步驟二:等待回復(fù)
等待老師給你答復(fù)。如果老師同意寫推薦信那就看接下來步驟。
步驟三:繼續(xù)交涉和溝通
后來回復(fù)告訴申請學(xué)校對推薦信具體要求。如果和老師見面談那回復(fù)老師自己大概什么時(shí)間去辦公室想一想感謝話。
步驟四:感謝推薦人

I take great pleasure in recommending Wang Yong, one of my favorite students, for admission into your distinguished graduate program. Mr. Wang was admitted in 1986 at 14 years of age into the SPECIAL CLASS for the GIFTED YOUTHS, my university's unique program that caters to the intellectual needs of unusually talented Chinese youngsters. It was a rare privilege he earned with his nearly impeccable academic performance through the years of his elementary and secondary school. He impressed me almost as he entered into my university, a major cradle of china's scientific and technological talents. At the time, members of the Gifted Class all had to spend half a month studying by themselves the principles of calculus and then take an exam so that we could evaluate their self-study capability. Mr. Wang scored the highest grade in that exam. He also exhibited a keenly whetted mind during class discussions. To my regret at the time, his English was not as good as his mathematics or physics.(缺點(diǎn)介紹,公正真實(shí)) But I noticed he made a point of working especially hard in improving his English during his five undergraduate years with us. By now, he seems to be at least as proficient in English as most of his former classmates in the Gifted Class. I am sure that Mr. Wang will be an outstanding student in any doctoral program that he may care to enroll in.
