【have too much on one's plate 貪多嚼不爛】
就算一個人的能力無窮，他的時間終究有限，若此時工作任務(wù)如排山倒海而來，難免讓人懷疑他就算能一心二用，恐怕也免不了焦頭爛額的下場，最后沒有一樣事情能做好。這種情況你就可以用Someone has too much on one's plate.來形容“（某人）貪多嚼不爛�！�
A: I think he has too much on his plate right now.
我覺得他真的是貪多嚼不爛。
B: I agree. He's too busy to return my calls, and we have some important business to finish.
我同意。他忙到?jīng)]時間回我電話，而我們還有重要的公事要敲定呢。
跟這個慣用詞相近的還有have a lot on one's plate，“有很多事要忙”。
A: I know you've got a lot on your plate. But you also have to consider your health.
我知道你有很多事要忙。但是你也該為健康著想。
B: I can't agree more.

【play hard to get 欲擒故縱】
在人際的關(guān)系當(dāng)中，好比男女關(guān)系或是聘雇之間的關(guān)系，有時候一方會采取不置可否的態(tài)度，讓人覺得對方若即若離的，在要與不要之間，真叫人拿捏不定。也許你會覺得對方其實是想要，只是愛欲擒故縱、搞神秘，這種情況在美語中就可以用 play hard to get “欲擒故縱”來形容。
A: I don't think Lisa likes me.
我不覺得莉莎喜歡我。
B: Yes, she does. She's just playing hard to get.
不，她喜歡你。她只是欲擒故縱。
1) offer (v.) 提供(工作機會等)

要注意work 并不專指“工作”，有時指“靈光、有效”。
A: My brain doesn't seem to work well today.

你最好到外面走一走。但是要快快回來，我們下午有一大堆事要做。
A: I understand you had a bad cold yesterday.

Zina: Yeah. Let me see if he'll do it, and I'll get back to you.

當(dāng)有人問起你一些事情或是訊息，若你無法立即答復(fù)，得要先去研究研究的時候，就可以用上這句話 I'll get back to you.“我會再回復(fù)你。”表達(dá)等你一有結(jié)論就會主動聯(lián)絡(luò)對方的誠意。
A: How much are these machines going to cost me?

B: Let me check my figures, and I'll get back to you on that.
待我先查看一下數(shù)字，我再回復(fù)你。
【Don't sweat it.別花這心思�！�
sweat 是“流汗”，而若是碰到要費一些周折才能解決的`事，流點汗肯定是免不了的。于是sweat 也可以用作名詞，表示“苦差事”，引申做動詞也就成了“費苦心”的意思，Don't sweat it 這句短語就是指“別花力氣、心思在這上頭”。目的是告訴對方不必大費周折，白花力氣。
A: I'm sorry I forgot your birthday party.
我很抱歉忘了你的生日派對。
B: Don't sweat it. I had a good time anyway.
別多心了。反正我玩得很愉快。
1) Do you have somebody in mind? 你心目中有人選嗎？文后的keep...in mind 則是指“謹(jǐn)記在心”。

rub it in 的這個動作就像是一抹再抹，越抹越進(jìn)去的感覺，而這個片語在使用上，就是“落井下石”的意思，明明人家已經(jīng)很慘了，卻還要打落水狗，在傷口上撒鹽。
A: So, your sister beat you in bowling!
所以你妹妹打保齡球贏了你！
B: Stop rubbing it in, OK?
別落井下石了，好嗎？
A: Didn't I tell you over and over again she doesn't like you?
我不是一再告訴你她不喜歡你嗎？
B: You don't have to rub it in.

這個句型可以用來詢問人的狀況，通常是你發(fā)現(xiàn)對方有啥不對勁的時候。
A: What's up with him?
他是怎么回事？
B: He and his girlfriend just split up.
他跟女朋友剛分手。
你也可以用這個句型來問事物。
A: What's up with the new air conditioner?
這臺新冷氣機是怎么回事？
B: The other one broke, so I went and bought this one.
另一臺壞掉了，所以我去買了這臺新的。
1) Way to go. “有一套。”這句短語是用來稱贊他人的表現(xiàn)。
2) You can say that again. 我再同意不過了。這句話是用來表達(dá)對他人說的話心有戚戚焉。
