          Type A

          1) Show your understanding of the symbolic meaning of the pictures below(描述點(diǎn)題段).

          2) Give a specific example, and.

          3) Give your suggestion as to the best way to overcome it (前瞻感言段)

          Type B.

In your essay, you should first describe the drawing (描述點(diǎn)題段) then interpret its meaning(闡述寓意段), and give your comment on it.

This is not an uncommon picture in our life: there are many occasions in which so many people don’t abide by the rules. What picture above intends to convey is a typical example. As we can see from it, instead of waiting in the line and behaving themselves, some young people are deliberately shoving and pushing among throngs of passengers. They make troubles and create chaos, causing damages to the public property, as we see it----the bus door already turned loose.

Our nation takes pride in having a fine tradition of civility and respect and politeness. This and other negative pictures are running against such a tradition and do a lot harm to society. Not only the rule of law and order but also normal life can be affected and damaged. And worse still, young children might regard these people as examples and follow suit. And this moral loss is far-reaching and irrevocable (beyond repair).

All the members of the society abiding by the rules can solve the depressing problem altogether. If each of us complies with the rules, our nation can build up a more positive image. Thus, we can pave the way to a society of civility, compassion, courage and character.

Visitors can pay in a copy of the Great Wall graffiti message

It is reported that tourists to China’s Great Wall can now leave their mark on a fake wall recently built near the real wall in Badaling if they pay 999yuan. In China, many visitors have the hobby of carving graffiti on places of interest, especially on some famous cultural relics. Last year I went to the Great Wall and found many people had left names and ugly words on the Wall, which destroys many historic bricks. In my opinion, such people should feel ashamed of leaving their marks on the great relics which were created by our ancestors. So personally I quite agree with this brilliant project though it has caused criticism from some people. The Great Wall would be ruined one day if we didn’t take any steps to protect it. The fake wall is really a good idea because we can protect our relic as well as making profits from the project.

Virtue diary

June 3, Friday Fine On my way home on the bus, I saw an old man get on with his grandson of about ten. He was carrying the boy’s schoolbag and violin. I gave my seat to the old man at once. However, the boy sat down first. The old man had to stand nearby. After a while, the boy shouted to his grandpa for water and then dropped the empty bottle on the bus. When I saw this, I got very angry. I think the boy should not only respect and take care of the old man but also keep the environment clean.

Social customs

Dear Jane, Glad to hear from you and you’re welcome to China in July. The following are some Chinese customs. Firstly, we greet each other by saying “Hello” or asking such questions as “Where are you going?” or “Are you busy?” to express our care. Secondly, when praised, we reply with “Oh, no!” or “I’m over-praised” to show good manners. Next, when receiving a gift, we usually say “It’s unnecessary” besides “Thanks” to show politeness and then put it away. Finally, at dinner parties, we talk loudly and touch glasses when drinking to someone’s health or success to show that we’re warm. Anyhow, different cultures, different customs. If you “Do as the Romans do when in Rome”, you’ll enjoy more of your stay here. I hope what’s mentioned above might be helpful and wish you a good journey. Yours sincerely, Li Hua

          The Discomfort of Silence

Many Americans find silence uncomfortable. They will murmur on to fill any quietness if it extends for more than a moment. Students often study with their radios singing;housewives leave televisions on for the companionship of sound even though they may be working in some other room. If you are silent for long periods, they will do their best to draw you out or will ask if you feel all right or if there is anything that they can do to help you. Sometimes silence can be puzzling, however; if Americans disagree with what you are saying, many of them will remain quiet. This may not suggest agreement; often it only means that they consider it impolite to argue further.

Civilization Fuzhou, continuous civilization

We are glad that Fuzhou is now among the national civilized cities. As students~ what shall we do to keep up the good work? First of all, we should respect our teachers, parents and the old. Also, we ought to be polite and honest. Second, it's always good to be kind, friendly and helpful to others. Third, we must obey traffic rules and mustn't cross the streets when the traffic lights are red. Last but not least, it's important and necessary to help protect the environment. For example, we shouldn't spit here and there or throw litter about. We'd better not pick flowers or step on the grass. In short, if everyone makes contributions, our city will be better and better.
